Would you donate half of your wealth for your Country?

That was the Question asked by an RJ today as I was driving to work and listening to Radio. The actual question was not limited to just country but whether we are willing to donate half of our wealth to our country/community etc for the welfare of our country. The question was against the backdrop of the US economic crisis but this was a Radio Station for South Asian listeners. The immediate thought that I had was of course we would, but the problem is not about donating, it is just that we don’t trust people to do good with the Money.

Not Surprisingly the people who called in for the rest of the program pretty much had the same view. The general consensus was that yes they are willing to donate their half of the wealth, but are not willing to place this wealth in the hands of Politicians. If they see a Leader who is trust worthy enough and has a vision on what needs to be done with this money and is also a capable project manger in terms of execution of the vision with the funds provided by the people, then all of them are pretty much ready to donate their wealth.
